LEARNING EXPEDITIONS

Bringing Learning to Life

At Silverton Public School, our students dive into dynamic learning expeditions each year in Social Studies and Science, aligned with Colorado State Standards. These immersive studies transform education into an exciting adventure, integrating compelling topics, hands-on projects, and real-world experiences.

Our learning expeditions are more than just classroom activities—they are in-depth explorations that spark curiosity and build essential skills. By engaging with authentic audiences, fieldwork, and expert insights, students participate in original research, critical thinking, and problem-solving. This approach not only fosters academic excellence but also strengthens character and leadership.

At Silverton School, we ignite curiosity and build character through adventure-fueled learning!

Expeditions connect classroom learning with the real world, enhancing skills in reading, writing, research, and collaboration. Students learn to observe keenly, ask insightful questions, and produce high-quality work. Teachers craft lessons that challenge students at every level of thinking, from understanding to creating.

Silverton Public School values adventure and collaboration, providing students with opportunities to face challenges individually and as a team. Reflection is a key part of this journey, allowing students to grow, learn about themselves and their peers, and connect with the world around them. Our dedicated teachers ensure that every activity is safe and enriching, making each expedition a memorable learning experience.

We Believe in Connecting Classroom Learning to Real-World Adventures, Enhancing Skills, and Fostering Growth.

Curriculum Themes

Our small class sizes allow us to combine grades, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where students learn and grow together. This combined-grade approach supports a looping curriculum, where students remain with the same teacher for multiple years, building strong connections and lasting relationships.

Curriculum topics include humanities and science.

By the time students reach their senior year, they are truly on a self-directed path. Many choose to enroll in Fort Lewis College and take college-level courses, gaining valuable experience and earning credits towards their future degrees. Others focus on an area of interest or trade they wish to develop further, whether it be in the arts, sciences, or vocational skills. This self-directed approach ensures that our graduates are well-prepared for the next steps in their educational and professional journeys, equipped with the skills and confidence to pursue their passions.
